Local students help declare April to be Child Abuse Prevention Month

Local students help declare April to be Child Abuse Prevention Month

The Crawford County Board of Supervisors hosted some special guests for the reading of one of their proclamations during Tuesday’s meeting.

Jodi Muhlbauer’s Broadway Elementary fifth grade class crowded into the courthouse and several students read parts of the Child Abuse Prevention Month proclamation out loud. They were joined by Kim Fineran and Amy Truckee from Crawford County Public Health, Annette Koster from Early Childhood Iowa, and Mollie Scott of Decategorization and Community Partnerships for Protecting Children. One of Mrs. Muhlbauer’s students got to strike to the gavel after the board unanimously adopted the proclamation.

The supervisors later unanimously adopted a separate proclamation declaring this to be National Public Health Week. They also approved the treasurer’s quarterly report as well as a residential tax abatement for a new house in Battle Creek. CDC Tourism Coordinator Shani Bonner approached the board with a quarterly report as well.
