Tri-City BBQ Fest returns to uptown Denison, still accepting volunteers

The Tri-City BBQ Fest returns to uptown Denison this Friday and Saturday. Evan Blakley is the Executive Director of the Chamber and Devlopment Council of Crawford County. He says event organizers will start closing streets Thursday evening.

“Many businesses are staying open, of course, on Friday even though the streets are closed so we just appreciate the public working with us on this,” said Blakley.

Broadway Street will be closed from Avenue C near Just One More to South 15th Street next to Hyvee beginning Friday morning. Main Street from 1st Avenue North to part of 1st Avenue South will begin closing as well.

“Crawford County Bank drive thru we’re usually able to keep open until noon but after that pretty much most of uptown will be closed down and our guests from all over the country start to arrive,” said Blakley.

The festival’s main entrance is on Main Street with 1st Avenue North with a small part of 14th Street to 2nd Avenue North closing on Friday at 4 p.m. Blakley says there are suggested options for people who need to get to work uptown during the festival.

“We appreciate if you can carpool. It just makes things a little bit easier. A lot of folks that work uptown they have someone drop them off that day so that they don’t even have to worry about parking a car,” said Blakley.

The festival is still accepting volunteer applications for this weekend’s event. Blakley says it takes more than 300 volunteers to help make the festival successful.

“It includes everything from people manning the children’s activities or selling merchandise or working at the beer tent. There are all sorts of places where we need help. Without those festival volunteers there’s no way this would be possible at all so we’re very appreciative and we’re told it’s one of the best places to volunteer and make new friends here in Denison,” said Evan Blakley.

Blakley says you can find a link to their volunteer application and the latest list of positions they are still looking to fill at “Tri-City-B-B-Q-Fest” on Facebook.

Tri-City BBQ Fest opens at 5:00 p.m. on Friday and 10:00 a.m. on Saturday with food and beer vendors open at 11:00 a.m. in uptown Denison.
