City of Denison applying for federal re-connectivity grant

City Manager Brad Warren says Denison is applying for a new federal grant program designed to help with re-connectivity.

“What that is about is getting into disadvantaged communities or neighborhoods and connecting them to healthcare, shopping, jobs, job training such as WIT, and to the educational system and then also recreational opportunities,” said Warren.

He says there are planning and construction parts of the grant program.

“They will tell us what are the best roads it’s supposed to be on and planning it out in phases for our capabilities. Normally there’s not too many grants out there for sidewalks or trails but lately there’s been a lot more so if we can get some of that funding and do some of these roads with little or no money that would be great see,” said Warren.

Warren says participating in the planning part can improve a community’s chances of being able to score funds in the construction part as well.
