National Weather Service issues red flag warning
The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning for western and central Iowa Thursday. Lead Meteorologist Andrew Ansorge says dry conditions and strong winds lead to high fire danger.
“It’s not uncommon in the fall. Things start dying off as far as grasses go so they become cured and crop land is also getting harvested. Avoid burning if possible and also be careful with chains on trucks and trailers and that type of stuff that could create a spark that could start a grass fire,” said Ansorge.
Crawford and Sac counties are among the affected areas. The red flag warning is in effect until at least 7 p.m. Thursday.
