Denison PD now at full staff, city council amends snow removal codes
Mayor Pam Soseman swore Garth Wolff in as a police officer during the Denison City Council meeting on Tuesday night. She says that puts Denison PD back at full staff.
“I’ve done it a few times now. It’s always very exciting for the city especially in this case since the department will now be full. We do not have to send this one through training. He’s been here before,” said Soseman.
The council voted to amend city codes for snow removal and municipal infractions. The snow removal amendment included updated definitions, minimums, and penalties. Residents could be fined for not removing all snow and ice from a sidewalk after ½-inch of snow or more within a 24-hour period. Residential sidewalks up to four feet wide must clear a path at least two feet wide. Sidewalks wider than four feet can only have one foot of snow or ice on each side of a cleared pathway. All commercial and industrial sidewalks have a clear path of at least six feet across or the entire width it’s less than six feet. The municipal infractions amendment formally adopted part of the Iowa Code regarding the powers and duties of cities. A county resident petitioned the city to change the speed limit on 10th Avenue North from 25 to 35 miles per hour. The council tabled the item until Chief Brandon Rinnan has a chance to review it.
