Adam Burns Remembered in Denison and Beyond

The life of teacher and coach Adam Burns is being honored in Denison this week.

Burns, a Denison High School math instructor and coach for a variety of high school and youth sports teams, passed away Friday morning at age 35.

Brooke Lambert is a fourth-grade teacher at Broadway Elementary School. She is also a close family friend who helps organize support for the Burns family.

“The rosary will be today at 3:30, the visitation will be from 4:00-8:00, and then there will be a prayer service at 8 p.m. where our friend Trevor Urich will be giving a eulogy,” said Lambert. “Tomorrow they are inviting anyone who has attended to come to Boulders and share in some fellowship and a meal with the family after the funeral is over.”

Burns was originally diagnosed with glioblastoma in his brain in the spring of 2021. Lambert says they wanted to be open about telling Adam’s story and it’s now touched countless lives.

“You can see what type of man Adam is through the reach and the support that we have had, what type of family the Burns family has been, and how much their impact has been felt,” said Lambert. “Losing him will be very hard for a lot of people but the joy in it is that we have amazing support. I know Katie and the girls are feeling that.”

The Denison Community School District announced that school will be dismissed at noon on Thursday due to the funeral which begins at 2 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
