Denison Hoping to Add Housing After Burgess Land Purchase

The City of Denison recently purchased 23.5 acres of land with hopes to develop housing there in the future.

Mayor Pam Soseman says the land is south of town off Highway 59 near Crestview Drive but it’s possible at least two dozen homes could be built there.

“We’ll just have to re-zone that and do some infrastructure work. So that’s very exciting. It’s a bold move for the city of Denison. Hopefully, if we can expand our tax base eventually we can bring hopefully bring the taxes down. We were all ecstatic when we heard we received the land,” said Soseman.

She says the owners declined an earlier offer but the city was able to buy it at an auction. The city council discussed the purchase at their meeting last week.
