Denison Seeking Homes for Iowa Basement Bids

Denison is still seeking a local contractor to help prepare for a second Homes for Iowa house this year.

The city council approved the $90,000 purchase agreement for a 3-bedroom house to be placed at 1110 3rd Ave N during this week’s regular meeting. Mayor Pam Soseman says building the basement is the next major step in the process.

“We’re having problems getting people to respond to the bidding process. I believe another letter has been sent out for either poured concrete or block,” Soseman says.

She says the prison-built home would be completed during the summer if it’s delivered in late May or early June as planned.

“That will give us a couple of months of good weather to get that done and then it can be put on the market with the same qualifications as it did last time,” Soseman said.

She says the city will look for a low-to-moderate income buyer but could open the sale up to anyone after three months like they did with the first Homes for Iowa house.
