Wellness Center Volunteers Exploring Several Fundraising Options

The Crawford County Recreation & Wellness Center Committee is pushing hard to raise pledges over the next month or so.
Chairman Tim Stuart says around 30 committee members are volunteering their time to seek out public support but that's not the only place they are looking.
“We have some big opportunities in particular with the state and ARPA funds through the Destination Iowa program. We’re focused on getting some pledges and commitments over the next month or so in order to report back to the state and give them a good idea that we are going to have a shovel-ready project later this year,” Stuart says.
He says the Denison City Council and Crawford County Board of Supervisors started the effort with $750,000 each toward the project with Denison Municipal Utilities, Crawford County Memorial Hospital, and Denison Community Schools also on board. Stuart says some plans have a total project price tag up near $26 million.
“People look at that and say oh boy how in the world are we going to get that done? We’re hoping that this $26 million project at the end will be more of an $18-20 million project. We’re working with the architect. What can we do in order to get this thing down to $20 million or less?” Stuart says.
The proposed wellness center will feature a fieldhouse that could potentially make Denison a regional hub for indoor soccer. The facility is also expected to include a multi-purpose gymnasium, walking track, aerobics room, fitness facility, and an area for children.
Stuart says people can reach out to committee members for more information and a full list of naming opportunities:
