Woodbury County Sheriff releases details on murder, attempted suicide
On Sunday, Sheriff Chad Sheehan of Woodbury County released additional details about a shooting that occurred on Friday evening in Sergeant Bluff. According to Sheehan, 43-year-old Raymond Rogers is believed to have shot his estranged wife and the man she was living with before turning the gun on himself. Sheriff Chad Sheehan says upon responding to a report of gunfire, deputies peered through a window and spotted Rogers lying on the ground.
"Deputies immediately entered the residence. And inside the residence were able to rescue a 12 year old boy who was seeking refuge inside the residence during the time of the attack while removing the boy. Deputies discovered a both a male and a female victim both suffering from what appeared to be serious life threatening gunshot wounds," he says.
The man, identified as Gerele Jones, later died, and the woman, Ashley Rogers, was transported to a hospital. Meanwhile, Raymond Rogers is in critical condition in a hospital.
Sheriff Sheehan praised the young boy for his bravery in calling the deputies during the attack, saying that without his call, the situation could have been even worse.
"I can't imagine what that young man went through while this was going on he had the courage to make a phone call and give us information that was that was vital to us getting there quickly," Sheehan says.
The boy is the son of Gerele Jones, who was killed in the incident. Sheehan noted that the case could be classified as murder and attempted suicide, although the investigation is ongoing.
