The Annual Crawford County Memorial Day Ceremony Featured Veterans Receiving Quilts Of Honor
The Memorial Day Ceremony had the Denison High School band performing pieces like “America The Beautiful”, as well as “The National Anthem”. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited, and the Boys Scouts executed the raising of the flag. The VFW recited General John A. Logan’s General Order No. 11, designating a national day to remember those who perished during the Civil War. General Order No. 11 became the basis for Memorial Day. The Row of Honor was performed, in which a bell was rung to honor the fallen military members who had passed in the last year. Then, fifth grader Yiceli Bartolon delivered her essay, titled, What The American Flag Means To Me. Then, veterans within the community were presented with Quilts of Valor. At least 15 veterans received a quilt. The Denison High School band performed the “Armed Forces Medley”, which was followed by the Salute to Departed Comrades, with Taps finishing the salute. A benediction ended the event, and the Kiwanis Club offered a freewill donation luncheon.
