Family Chooses To Donate 5-Year-Old’s Organs After Drowning Incident

A family has decided to donate the organs of their 5-year-old son after a drowning incident at the Avoca Aquatic Center on Friday, June 16th. According to a social media post made by a family member, the boy was found unresponsive at the bottom of the community pool. He was airlifted to the Children’s Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Despite lifesaving efforts, the boy’s brain began to swell to dangerous levels. According to the GoFundMe page created to help the family with expenses, the family chose to donate the son’s organs, stating “[His] brain injury was too severe to bring him back to [who] we all know and love. [The] family has generously decided to donate his organs in hopes of saving other children’s lives.” KDSN News reached out to the Avoca Aquatic Center, and they declined to comment.
