Denison Parks and Recreation Holds Special Meeting for Washington Park
On Monday evening, August 21st, Denison Parks and Recreation held a special meeting to discuss the next moves going forward in regards to the recently demolished Washington Park. Interim Director, Sam Ellis, discussed the objective of the meeting and what took place. “ Basically what we wanted to do was set the timeline for getting the new playground for Washington Park up and going. Then we approved a request for proposal to get the proposal out to other playground contractors. They’ll submit the proposal by September 18th and then we can go through those and select a contractor and get the playground going.” Ellis went on to discuss the next steps involved after proposals have been submitted. “Once we get the proposals back we will go through those, then we’ll look at the money. Basically it’s just getting everything going forward in the right direction. The Parks and Rec Board will be the ones to ultimately decide which contract we go with and working with them for the final design and then it’ll go to the council and they’ll approve the final design.” Denison Parks and Recreation is committed to working with a quality contractor for re-building the park Ellis said. “The contractors that are certified; they know about ADA compliance because we are going to have an all-inclusive, all-abilities park. Going through this process we know that the companies that we are going to work with are registered using warranties and the safest possible practices” While there is no formal completion deadline, Ellis hopes that Washington Park in Denison will open at some point next Summer.
