One person dies in Menlo house fire
A house fire Tuesday morning in the western Iowa town of Menlo claimed the life of an elderly woman.
The first Menlo firefighter on the scene banged on the exterior walls and windows of the house and listened for any calls for help from inside the home, but there was no response.
When additional fire and rescue personnel arrived on the scene, they made entry into the home and knocked down the flames.
The body of a 73-year-old female was found in a hallway, about from the nearest exit. The woman died at the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The unidentified victim was transported to the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny, to determine the cause of her death.
