Clarence C. Hoffman, a longtime figure in Iowa’s political and business landscapes, passed away on February 28, 2025, at the age of 91. Hoffman's legacy as a dedicated public servant, successful businessman, and community leader was deeply rooted in Denison, Iowa, where he lived for many years and served as a prominent representative of the 55th District in the Iowa House of Representatives.

Born on August 7, 1933, in Leola, South Dakota, Hoffman earned his degree from South Dakota State University in 1959 before serving in the United States Army. He married Lynn Beaudean in 1968, and together they raised two sons, John and Louis, while later welcoming two bonus children, Mike and Michelle. The family moved to Denison, where Hoffman’s influence extended far beyond the walls of his home.

In addition to his political career, Hoffman was known for his leadership in the insurance industry. He founded the Hoffman Agency in Charter Oak in 1963, which later expanded to 11 locations across western Iowa. As a former president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Iowa, he was instrumental in shaping the state’s insurance landscape. In 2004, he was inducted into the Iowa Insurance Hall of Fame.

Hoffman’s political career spanned a decade, as he served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1998 to 2008. Representing the 55th District, he was recognized for his bipartisan approach to governance and his focus on economic development and local government issues. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role on several important committees, including the Economic Growth, Local Government, and Commerce Committees, and was re-elected in 2006 with overwhelming support.

His leadership was not confined to state politics. Hoffman was also a dedicated member of various community organizations, including the Crawford County Development Corporation, where he served as president, and he co-chaired significant fundraisers for both Concordia University and the Crawford County Medical Clinic. He was also an expert witness in insurance-related court cases, earning respect across multiple industries.

Beyond his professional achievements, Hoffman was known for his warmth and commitment to building relationships. He was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. A passionate golfer, he cherished the moments spent at the 19th hole, making memories with those closest to him.

Clarence C. Hoffman is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Lynn; their children, John, Louis, Mike, and Michelle; 10 grandchildren; and many other family members and friends. His impact on the community and his work in both politics and business will be long remembered.

Visitation will take place on Monday, March 3, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., with interment at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens. Memorials may be directed to several local causes and institutions. His funeral service will also be live-streamed for those unable to attend in person.

Clarence C. Hoffman’s life was a testament to dedication, service, and community, leaving an enduring legacy in Denison and beyond.
