Harrison County Conservation Expands with New Doidge Wildlife Area Near Dunlap

The Harrison County Conservation Board has announced the addition of its 19th park, the Doidge Wildlife Area, located near Dunlap. This 40-acre property, featuring a diverse expanse of timber and natural habitat, was acquired in partnership with the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation.

The land was purchased from Jim and Kathy Doidge. Jim Doidge, who now resides in northeast Iowa, grew up next to this property and wanted to ensure that it would be preserved and made accessible to the public. As a result, the Harrison County Conservation Board has opened it for various recreational activities.

Visitors to the Doidge Wildlife Area can enjoy a range of outdoor pursuits, including mushroom hunting, hiking, and hunting for small game, turkeys, and deer. A designated parking area has been set up to facilitate public access.

Located just four miles west of Dunlap in the northeastern corner of Harrison County, the Doidge Wildlife Area is expected to be a valuable addition to the county’s network of parks, offering residents and visitors a place to experience nature up close.

The Harrison County Conservation Board has emphasized that the preservation of this land aligns with their mission to protect natural habitats while providing opportunities for outdoor recreation. More details about the park’s features and available activities can be found on their official website.
