Hampton man dies in fiery crash beside grain elevator
Authorities are releasing the name of the 35-year-old man who was killed Sunday in a crash in Franklin County.
The Iowa State Patrol reported a southbound 2024 model Subaru Forester SUV driven by Ty Borcherding of Hampton was traveling at a very high rate of speed in Dows when it left the roadway, vaulted, and struck the concrete elevator owned by the NEW Coop.
The vehicle came to rest against a metal door at the elevator, where it then caught fire.
Firefighters from Belmond, Clarion, and Dows arrived on the scene early Sunday morning to extinguish the blaze.
Borcherding was pronounced dead at the accident scene.
