IOWA CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT 1
Two-Thirds Legislative Approval for State Income Tax Increases
Vote YES or NO
The proposed amendment would require a two-thirds majority in both chambers of the Iowa Legislature to approve certain state income tax increases or establish new state taxes on income.
Currently, those measures generally require a simple majority. If approved, the amendment would require at least 67 votes in the 100-member Iowa House and 34 votes in the 50-member Iowa Senate.
The proposed requirement would not apply to taxes imposed at the option of local governments.
A YES vote supports adding the two-thirds requirement to the Iowa Constitution.
A NO vote keeps the existing simple-majority requirement.
