Crawford County Shooting Sports - Week 4 Update from Coach

The Crawford County Shooting Sports members accounted for 50 of the 163 competitors that participated in Saturday’s competition at the M&G Gun Club in Schaller. The team’s toughest competitor of the day once again came with facing Mother Nature and the wind and constant rain that she challenged us with throughout the duration of the shoot. Although I couldn’t have been any prouder of all our students for how well they shot in the rainy, windy, and overall less than ideal conditions yet again, the Crawford County Shooting Sports Middle School teams provided a shining light to the range on Saturday, bringing home 8 of the 9 awards that were earned on Saturday for their classes.

The HS division witnessed a very close competition with only seven broken targets differentiating the first and third spots on the leaderboard. Our HS Gold class that consisted of Levi Steinkamp, Talon Adams, Derek Scheuring, Garret Plagge, and John Graeve shot an overall score of 221, which netted them a third place finish. That score of 221 put them in a tie for second place, however Ida County was on the right side of the Reverse Run scoring, earning them the second place finish. A second Ida County Team took home the first place award.

Aiden March brought home the top spot to our HS Men’s team, placing fourth place overall after shooting a perfect round score of 25 in the Men’s HS individual class and with his combined two-round score of 47. Ida County brought home the top-3 spots after their three-way tie of scores of 49 out of 50 being shot by all three individuals.

Kallie Bromert brought home the top spot for our team in the HS ladies class with her fifth place finish and her combined score of 32. Carroll County brought home first place, with Ida County rounding out the top three with their second and third place finishes.

The MS division saw our MS Gold team, consisting of Brock Schneider, Ryan Slechta, Karson Bromert, Charlotte Schrum, and Gavin Bral bringing home a second place finish with their score of 194. Our MS Silver team that consisted of Wiatt Schulte, Cale Paulsen, Huntur Johannsen, Morgan Wood, and Ava Pauley brought home the third place finish with their final score of 184. Ida County shooters took home the first place finish with their combined score of 199.

Our MS Men’s class had Crawford County Shooters rounding out the top 4 spots on the leaderboard today. Brody Morgan, in only his fourth competition of his young career, brought home a perfect round score of 25 and a combined score of 45 to bring home the first place finish. Cale Paulsen, also in only the fourth competition of his career, followed up in second place with his final score of 44. Ryan Slechta rounded out the top three with his final score of 43, with Brenden Sieren keeping the pressure on all of them with his fourth place finish of 42.

Our Crawford County Shooting Sports MS Ladies shared very similar results on Saturday with bringing home the top-3 leaderboard positions for their class in a very close competition of their own. Gracen Plagge tracked down the first place finish with her score of 39, Charlotte Schrum was close behind with her second place score of 38, with Ava Pauley rounding out the leaderboard in third place with her two-round score of 36.

As mentioned at the top of the email, our team really came together on Saturday and put forward a very impressive performance. Their resilience is unrivaled to none and they willingly accept the challenges presented to them by Mother Nature week in and week out and find a way to keep it fun so that success can be achieved. It’s tough to teach grit, but these kids have it, and we as coaches couldn’t be any prouder of them for it. Our next meet will take place this weekend when we return to the AVAD Hunt Club in Dedham. Updates to follow, on-time, after that meet!

Thanks All,

Coach Mike
