James "Buck" Hoffmeier honored at Crawford County Supervisor meeting
Family and friends honored a longtime Crawford County employee for his half-century of service during Tuesday's weekly Board of Supervisors meeting.
A crowd of close to 30 people filled the supervisor meeting chamber to recognize James Hoffmeier for 50 years of service with the county. Representative Steve Holt awarded “Buck” with a Certificate of Recognition from the State of Iowa House of Representatives and a United States flag that flew above the Iowa State Capitol on July 22, 2021. County Engineer Paul Assman presented “Buck” with a service plaque to commemorate the milestone achievement. Ziegler Caterpillar gifted “Buck” a model tractor as well.
The supervisors tabled a letter of intent with the civil engineering group ISG regarding county inspections for the Midwest Carbon Express Pipeline. A public meeting in Crawford County about this carbon dioxide pipeline project is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 5th at Memorial Hall in Manilla.
The board approved purchasing a pair of Mack tandem axle dump truck chassis from Housby Mack. County Engineer Paul Assman mentioned that he expects to wait until June 2022 before getting them because of ongoing supply chain disruption.
The supervisors also tabled a few more agenda items. They mentioned wanting to read the official report for the fiscal year ending June 30th which the county highway engineer will submit to the Iowa Department of Transportation when authorized to do so. The board also cited a desire for more information about a potential tax abatement for land parcels owned by the City of Denison. One piece is located near Avenue C and 2nd Avenue North and the other is near Avenue C and 7th Street.
