PRESS RELEASE: Construction Begins for Manning Regional Healthcare Center Renovation

MRHC’s Project Forward campaign and construction to expand the Senior Life Solutions program space, upgrade the hospital pharmacy to meet regulations, and add a negative-pressure isolation room is underway.

“We are excited about the progress happening with the renovation project at MRHC,” said Linn Block, CEO. “This means we will be able to bring our seniors back to our facility, continue to offer life-saving infusions (including chemotherapy), and ultimately continue to evolve to meet our patients’ needs.”

Construction Update

Demolition began on May 10th and is nearing completion. As of May 26th, flooring was cut out, necessary walls were taken down and framing is anticipated to begin within the next two weeks. Construction for the whole project is expected to conclude in August.

“It is so important to be able to get our seniors back together in person and safely,” said Janet Brus, SLS program director. “The sooner we can get this construction project completed, the sooner we can have our seniors and most vulnerable population receiving in-person group therapy sessions for anxiety and depression.”

Funding Update

The MRHC Administrative team was recently notified by a USDA Rural Development Specialist from Storm Lake that the request for a Community Facilities Grant for furniture and equipment for the project has been approved for $50,000. The team has applied for numerous other grants including Prairie Meadows for a total request of approximately $200,000.

Contributions from MRHC employees and the community have made a significant impact on the campaign and the administrative team is grateful for their commitment and support of this project.

Total community donations have totaled $88,293 with the goal to raise $500,000 in contributions and pledges by the end of 2021.

Donations of Grain

Some donors are finding other unique ways to donate and help support Project Forward. Rich and Nancy Danner generously contributed grain by taking a load of grain to the local co-op. They simply shared that they would like the proceeds of the sale to benefit MRHC. Amy Benton is the staff contact, so when donations of grain are made, Amy is notified, and the grain is then sold and proceeds are given to MRHC.

Family Recognition

One special way to donate is to honor a family name or legacy. “We recognize there are many families who have been impacted for generations by the services of MRHC,” said Virginia Rasmussen, campaign co-chair. “On our donor recognition wall, we anticipate having a tree scene representing the ‘Trees of Life’ and hope that families will consider combining their donations for joint recognition as a family.”

Donations (including cumulative family donations) of $1,000 or more will be recognized. Base tree trunks will be dedicated for contributions of $100,000 or greater. Varying sizes of branches will be reserved for donations of $10,000-$99,999 and various sizes/colors of leaves will be reserved for donations of $1,000-$9,999.

MRHC welcomes the support and participation in this campaign by the regional community, as well as individuals and businesses in neighboring counties. Those interested in donating can visit MRHC’s lobby to pick up a donation form, call Amy Benton at (712) 655-2072 to discuss funding needs, or visit www.mrhcia.com/2021-capital-campaign to find out more details.
