Denison Police report 4 arrests, 2 accidents, 2 additional incidents

The Denison Police Department reported a total of eight incidents since last Monday.

Denison PD made a trio of public intoxication arrests over the weekend. They took 36-year-old John Char of Denison into custody at approximately 3:34 p.m. Saturday near Broadway and arrested 49-year-old Mark Cham of Denison at around 12:23 p.m. near Avenue C that same afternoon. They apprehended 41-year-old David Cox of Charter Oak near South Main Street at about 7:01 p.m. Friday and booked him for the same charge.

Police encountered Esperanza Arrellano-Barrios at approximately 8:15 a.m. Thursday near South 12th Street and Broadway. They cited and released the 26-year-old female for driving while her license is revoked.

All charges are allegations and the persons named in a case are to be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Sundquist Engineering reported a break-in at the storage units on the 1300 block of 7th Avenue South at approximately 7:30 a.m. Friday. The alleged forced entry and theft happened between that Friday and the previous Friday, October 8th. The listed charge for a suspect potentially arrested in the case is third-degree burglary.

A Denison resident reported a separate crime on Tuesday. He told police that someone broke into a camper sitting on the 1200 block of 7th Avenue South and stole a power cable. The incident took place between 7 p.m. Sunday, October 10th, and 6 a.m. Monday, October 11th. The listed offense for a suspect in the case is fifth-degree theft.

Denison PD also reported a pair of motor vehicle accidents.

The most recent incident took place at approximately 2:55 p.m. Friday near Industrial Drive. The related document indicates that 41-year-old Maribel Guzman was driving a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup. Guzman reportedly backed into a parking spot and accidentally scratched the truck's passenger door on the bumper and left-front fender of a legally parked 2005 Cadillac Escalade. The report lists no injuries and no citations. The damage estimate for each vehicle is listed as $1,500.

A separate accident happened at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 30. The 2013 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by 74-year-old Robert Ettleman of Dow City was slowing to turn south into the Pit Stop Auto Wash. Police determined after reviewing video from the car wash that the 2015 GMC Terrain piloted by 87-year-old Norma Berens of Denison swerved to avoid the slowing Chevy truck. Berens later told police she couldn't stop and the report lists her brake system as a vehicle defect. The video indicates Ettleman already turning into the car wash and the Terrain running into the passenger side of the Silverado. Ettleman's pickup stopped in the grass in front of Arnold Motor Supply. Berens' Terrain continued on and nearly struck the Arnold Motor Supply building before coming to a stop in the El Charro parking lot. Berens later complained of pain at the scene. Ettleman reported no injury. Police issued no citations. The disabled Terrian is expected to cost $6,000 to repair while the damage estimate for the Silverado is $2,000.
