Iowa Supreme Court rules in police body camera case

The Iowa Supreme Court has upheld the conviction of a Polk County man based on police body camera footage of surveillance video from a convenience store.
Terrance Manning was convicted of willful injury causing serious injury after beating another man in the parking lot of a convenience store during an argument. A police officer’s body camera video of the convenience store surveillance video showing the attack was used as evidence after an issue with getting the original store video for evidence.
The Iowa Court of Appeals ruled the bodycam video could not be used. The Iowa Supreme Court ruled that testimony and other evidence confirmed that what was shown in the bodycam video was accurate, and it upheld Manning’s conviction and ten-year prison sentence.
