Manning Awarded $10,000 State Grant to Explore Future of Vacant Downtown Facility

Manning Awarded $10,000 State Grant to Explore Future of Vacant Downtown Facility

The City of Manning has been selected as one of 16 Iowa communities to benefit from nearly $500,000 in grant funding announced this week by the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) through its Empower Rural Iowa program.

Manning will receive a $10,000 BOOST (Building Ownership and Organization by Strengthening Teams) grant, which will be used to explore potential redevelopment options for the former Accura HealthCare facility — currently the only vacant building in Manning’s downtown district.

The funding is part of the Fiscal Year 2026 Empower Rural Iowa initiative, designed to assist communities with fewer than 20,000 residents in tackling key local challenges such as housing, child care, and economic development.

City officials say the grant will help identify the most beneficial and sustainable use for the downtown property, supporting ongoing efforts to strengthen Manning’s economic vitality and preserve the character of its historic main street.
